After getting your resume set up, you should next create a LinkedIn profile. This tends to be the most commonly used job board site, and also probably the most common recruiting site. Recruiting won’t really happen for you before having any experience - ignore any of the messages that talk about consulting jobs (and if any pique your interest, make sure to google them because it’s probably too good to be true).
Some basic steps to take to jumpstart your LinkedIn:
- Create your account (obv)
- Add your skills and education info - this includes meaningful course names (e.g. Object-oriented Programming, Data Structures), programming languages, and any interesting concepts or tools
- Add your github link to your contact info on your profile
- Feel free to add any optional stuff like languages (i.e. linguistic ones), info about your (interesting) interests, and add anyone you know and are willing to add as “connections”
- Add a profile picture if you’re comfortable with that
